Curriculum Night is a great opportunity to meet the team of teachers working with your student. However, this is not a time for individual conferencing. Students will bring home a copy of their schedule on Tuesday, September 24th for you to bring with you on Curriculum Night, as you will follow your student's schedule. Curriculum Night is for parents/guardians only. You will start in Home Room and then go to Periods 1-6. Tryouts will happen the week of September 9th and practices start the following week. Emphasis will be placed on learning the game and improving students chess skills, sportsmanship, fun, making new friends, and participating in occasional tournaments. If your student is interested please email Ecksteinchessclub@gmail.com. This is IMPORTANT since we need know if there is sufficient interest to start an Eckstein Chess Club!If you are able to volunteer to support the club, please email us! The Details ..... If there is enough interest, chess club will meet in the Eckstein Cafeteria from 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm on Wednesdays from October, 2019 to April, 2020. There will likely be a program fee for student enrollment (need-based scholarships will be available) and please note that supervision will not be provided afterwards 3:34pm. Chess Club students can choose to participate in Scholastic chess tournaments which are usually held on Saturdays within the Seattle metro area. Enthusiasts could attend 1 or 2 tournaments a month from Oct – Apr, but all levels of participation are welcome. The club will strive to qualify each student at the local tournaments for the State Chess Championships, and then participating at State in April 2020. The state championship location moves every year, but the teammates enjoy making a weekend out of long-distance venues. |
