A Message from Your PTSA
Dear Families,
Here's hoping your re-entry into on-line learning was smooth after the Spring Break. (Raise your hand if it didn't seem like much of a break.)
We're all experiencing a lot of change - in how to stay safe, how to parent, how to teach our kids. We hope the information below provides some help and support as we all feel our way forward.
Scroll down for updates on grades, meal distribution, volunteer opportunities, and an upcoming webinar on how to Parent During a Pandemic. Cuz we all need a little help.
Stay safe and healthy,
Wendy Sykes, Eckstein Annual Campaign co-chair

Middle School Grading
Instead of a letter grade, students will receive a “P” for passing.
(Middle school students taking courses for high school credit will follow the SPS policy created for high school students)
8th Graders - High School Is Around the Corner!
Registration time is upon us! Ms. Duncan has created a folder in Schoology with a PowerPoint presentation and links to both Hale & Roosevelt's information and course catalogs. Please take a look and let her know if you have questions. You should have heard from your chosen high school about how to register for classes.
Laptop Distribution
The District has begun limited distribution of laptops to middle school students, starting with those who do not have access to any other device in their home and other high need students. If your family needs an additional device for use during the school closure, more information will be coming on how to ask for and get a laptop.
Free Tutoring for SPS K-8 Students
Local high school and college students are offering free tutoring and support for Seattle Public Schools K-8 students! Click here.

Eagle Life
Your Donation Dollars
The Eckstein Annual Campaign received an amazing amount of support this year from Eckstein families. If you remember, the campaign raised $110,000. In January alone, we funded $60,000 of teacher and staff requests.
The PTSA is working to identify ways that some of that money can be put to use now - to support our teachers and families. At the same time, next year will almost certainly be a challenge financially, and we will need to have some money in the coffer.
If you are in need of support - right now - to meet your child's educational or basic needs please contact your school counselor.
If you feel as though you can afford to donate to Eckstein's Annual Campaign - you can give here. All money goes to support Eckstein students, families and staff.
Parenting During a Pandemic
This is NOT what we signed up for. It's exhausting trying to do all of the things, all the time. These days as parents, we're all just trying to survive, let alone thrive. Find out how to focus on what really matters, do more with less and forget the rest.
Join ParentMap for a free virtual talk with best-selling author and speaker Dan Siegel, M.D. Learn the secrets of raising confident, compassionate and connected kids from his new critically acclaimed book, “The Power of Showing Up: How Parental Presence Shapes Who Our Kids Become and How Their Brains Get Wired.”
“Show up” for the webinar and learn:
  • How to unplug so you can tune in to your child
  • How to balance all the competing priorities in your day and still carve out family time
  • How to talk (and listen) to kids about tough topics without scaring them
Reserve your spot for this free event now.
This webinar may be recorded and republished for educational and promotional usage.
A Loss in the Eckstein Community
Last week Principal Rose announced that a beloved former Eckstein student passed away. Kristin described him as a kind soul with an infectious smile and a great friend to many students. Two of Arnold's siblings currently attend Eckstein. Click here to link to the Gonzales family's GoFundMe page.
Even a small donation could help Griselda Gonzalez reach their fundraising goal. If you can't contribute, but would like to help, you could share the fundraiser to help spread the word.
 Lockers
The school administration is working to find a way for students to safely clean out their lockers, in some sort of staggered timeline, once restrictions are lightened. Stay tuned to hear about how to get those mirrors, fuzzy dice and moldy lunch containers back.
8th Grade Promotion
Right now there isn't any guidance from the district or State on how to best do this - but don't worry - the Eckstein administration is thinking about this and will find a way to do SOMETHING for our graduating 8th graders to celebrate their success. Hang tight.
Yearbook Distribution Delayed
Yearbooks won't be distributed until late summer or early fall. Staff is working on the best way to get the books to our current eighth grade students, and maybe even coordinate a signing event. Stay Cool! HAGS!

Do You Need Help?
Food Support/Delivery
If your family needs a lunch or weekend food essentials and are unable to come to school, please contact you student's counselor (contact info below). The staff is working with the PTSA to form a delivery system that meets families’ needs and does not overburden Eckstein staff. If you would like to help deliver meals, please contact Beth Cogan at bethbenbear@gmail.com.

Do You Want to Help?
Ways to Help Your Eckstein Community
  • Volunteer to help deliver meals (see Food Support/Delivery, above)
  • Donate to the GoFundMe for the family of Arnold Gonzalez (see Eagle Life, above)
  • Donate to the Eckstein Annual Campaign fund, to help the Eckstein community now and in the future (see Eagle Life, above)
  • Become a member of PTSA Board! As parents "graduate" out of the Eckstein community, we need new parents to join us. The more the merrier and the more involved, the greater good we can do.
  • Tech Support. The Seattle Council PTSA is in dire need of volunteers to help (remotely) parents operate devices and access Schoology. If you can help, fill out this form. Bilingual help is especially needed.
