Position: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Chair
Brief Job Description: Chair the DEI committee and to represent the committee to the PTSA board. Attend the EAC committee meetings to pursue equity in distribution of funds. Serves as a conduit of information from and to the EMS PTSA, Seattle Council PTSA and Eckstein families.
Committee Responsibilities: The DEI committee -a group of parents, students, and teachers- was formed in 2020 when Eckstein PTSA passed the Eckstein Middle School PTSA Resolution on Combating Racism (link to resolution). It serves to support and educate the Eckstein community, students, and staff in our equity and inclusion work. Assists the PTSA in reaching the goals included in the Eckstein Middle School PTSA Resolution on Combating Racism. The committee is motivated and determined to help EMS be an inclusive environment where families, students, and teachers from all backgrounds are welcomed and valued.
It is working group, focused on two initiatives:

- Education: Provide anti-racism educational experiences and conversation opportunities to encourage a common understanding of the issues among Eckstein families
- Support for victims: Make the reporting process for harassment and abuse transparent and accessible to Eckstein students
